The 11th Biennial ISSFAL Congress 2014

Join us in Stockholm next June 28 - July 2, 2014!

Dear Friends, Colleagues, Attendees,

The next ISSFAL Meeting will take place from the 28th of June to the 2nd of July 2014 in Stockholm, the capital of Sweden.  For the first time in the 20 year history of ISSFAL, the meeting will be in Sweden and, as a matter of fact, this is the first time we have met in any Nordic country. We have met all over the world and we plan once again for an international meeting of participants from all continents.

The meeting will provide a unique occasion for the exchange of scientific results in the lipid area. It will facilitate interactions between old and new members and invited guests. The meeting will have three major topics: Biochemistry and Metabolism of fatty acids, Lipids in Health and Disease and Lipids in Nutrition. These major themes will encompass all aspects of lipids, from cholesterol and its metabolites to metabolites of essential fatty acids and the interactions, and lipidomics and metabolomics, which are important complements to proteomics in understanding human physiology and pathophysiology.  Presentations from basic research to translational research to clinical studies will be of interest to a diverse audience of basic researchers, physicians, and nutritionists. Evidence about the impact of lipids in different clinical diseases is increasing rapidly as is our understanding of the role that dietary lipids can play at all ages in preventing diseases related to lifestyle. A special effort will be made to establish cooperation among basic scientists and to foster translational research. As is typical of our biennial ISSFAL meetings, there will be opportunities to strengthen the cooperation among international researchers and clinicians. In addition to the plenary lectures and platform presentations chosen from abstract submissions, poster presentations and poster tours and wonderful social occasions will offer opportunities for  interaction among participants.

Stockholm, one of the most beautiful capitals in the world, is built on 14 islands connected by 57 bridges. The beautiful buildings, the greenery, the fresh air and the proximity to the water are distinctive traits of this city. With its 750 year history and rich cultural life, Stockholm offers a wide selection of world-class museums and attractions. Naturally a city built on 14 islands offers marvelous views over the water, and if 14 islands aren’t enough, Stockholm offers a wonderful archipelago with 30,000 islands, islet rocks and skerries.

Stockholm has excellent transport links including Arlanda, Bromma and Skavsta airports that cater for arrivals from most international destinations.  The airport express train Arlanda Express is the fastest and most environmentally friendly way of travelling between Stockholm City and Arlanda Airport. No stops on the way - you're whisked to your destination in 20 minutes or less. .Bromma airport is located just in the city.

Whether you are a long standing member or friend of ISSFAL and the conference, or this is your first time to take part, we assure you that we will work extremely hard to make sure that we meet your key objectives.  We are here to listen and we welcome your thoughts and feedback on how we can engage with you on the upcoming 2014 meeting and in the years beyond.

Yours sincerely,
